AgWare is currently supporting AccuFarm on Windows Vista, 7, 8, and 8.1. This means that you can finally move AccuFarm off of Windows XP (Microsoft quit support XP in April of 2014).
The first step to moving to an updated version of Windows is to ensure you have a recent backup of your AccuFarm database. While nothing bad is expected to happen, you can never be too careful when it comes to moving files. Now that you have your recent backup, you’ll need to download the installs for both the AccuFarm version as well as the AgWare MGR version. You can get both of those from our downloads site here. You’ll want to make sure to download the most recent version of AgWare MGR as well as the “AccuTech Client 5.1.51.EXE”.
Once you have both of the installs downloaded, it’s time to run them. It’s best to run the AgWare MGR install first. Then, you’ll want to place the AccuFarm install in the root folder of the database. You will see an install already in the folder called “Client.EXE”. You can delete this one and add the one you just downloaded from our site. You’ll then want to run the install directly from this folder. By doing this, you will eliminate having to go through additional configuration options. When you are stepping through the install, you can choose to either let it install to Program Files, or you can reroute it to Program Files(x86). We have clients using each of the locations; it’s totally up to you which location to choose.
After the AccuFarm install is complete, you’ll need to navigate to the install directory (it will either be in Program Files or Program Files(x86) depending on which location you chose) and run the “Convert.exe”. This will bring up a small window with a list of various conversion functions. You’ll need to run “v5.1 modify tables”; to do this click on it and then click convert. When it is finished you should get a pop up message that says conversion complete. You can now close the Convert.EXE window.
Now, double click on the AgWare MGR icon to open the program. This will bring up the main login screen; you’ll need to verify that the path to your database is correct. This is found at the bottom of the login window (yours may vary from the example below – that’s okay). If it is not correct, simply click on the change button and navigate to the correct database. After you have verified the database is correct, enter your login information (this is the same as your AccuFarm login) and click login. If you received any error when attempting to login to AgWare MGR, please give us a call at 605-791-4872 or email support@agmgr.com.
Now open AccuFarm MGR, and enter your login information. You’ll want to make sure that you can see your most recent data as well as all other data. Chances are that if you can see the most recent data, then it’s all there. It’s also a good idea to try and run a crystal report just to ensure everything is working properly.
If you run into any problems during this process, have questions, or would like assistance please don’t hesitate to give us a call at 605-791-4872 or send an email to support@agmgr.com.
